Okinawa and Oregon 今日の出来事

While I was getting ready to teach my afternoon English class in the Free Trade Zone out by the airport today, the girl working in the same shared office space, just happened to speak English very fluently while I was making copies and preparing to teach my class. What made me even happier was that she went to OSU (Oregon State University) and lived in Oregon for four years. We all got very nostalgic about Oregon and talked about the hippies, tie-dying, Saturday market, the jazz festival on the waterfront in Portland, OMSI, Uwajimaya which has a Kinokuniya in it too. I was so excited and happy to meet her. Now I have a new friend in Okinawa who loves Oregon. It made me think of this great idea to make a club for people living in Okinawa who are from or love Oregon, to get together and drink/eat and have BBQ parties and do stuff. We could even tie-dye shirts for an event sometime. Today I am so happy to meet someone who loves Oregon so much too in Okinawa.

今日はフリートレードゾーンで教える英語のクラスの準備中に同じオフィスで働いている女性の方がいて、英語はペラペラ話しました。しかも、何と！OSUに入学して、OSUの卒業生でした！UOの自分ではライバル存在でもあるOSUでありながら、４年間も住んでいましたからお互い様にオレゴンのことは懐かしくて、盛り上がってしまいました。ヒッピの話とか、タイダイシャツの話したり、サータディマーケットの話したり、ポートランドのジャズフェスタの話したり、OMSIの話したり、Beavertonの宇和島屋の話したり、紀伊国屋の話もしました。出会えてすごく嬉しくて、わくわくしちゃいました。これで、沖縄に住んでいるオレゴンを愛する仲間が増えました！それで、すごくいいアイディアがありまして、沖縄に住んでいるオレゴンの方や、オレゴンを愛する方の同好会を作ってみてはどうですか？一緒に飲んだり、食べたり、BBQしたり、遊んだりして、楽しそうではないか？そして、タイダイシャツもアクティビティとして、やってもいいんじゃいか？！今日はオレゴンをこんなに愛してくれている方沖縄で出会えてすごくハッピーな気分になりました！！！
